Where does My money go?
The hardest thing in the world to understand is the income tax.
- Albert Einstein
"When thinking about wedding films, one of the things people wonder about most often is why a filmmaker charges what he or she does. They see a price like $1599.00, scratch their heads, and think, 'Dad gum it, thems filmmakers is out to get me again! Dang Hollywood kids, out makin' billions!'
As a consumer myself, I'm always wondering about cost and its myriad mysteries. Ever go to buy eyeglasses? Ever wonder about that magical notebook they always seem to produce from under the counter that's filled with cryptic prices about polycarbonates, coatings, and protective tints? I have. And I hate those notebooks. I want to understand why that coating protects my retinas from nuclear holocaust before I pay the price you made up on the fly for it.
I feel like consumers should generally know why they're paying what they're paying. In the case of weddings, first and foremost, you're paying for a quality product. And to get there, you're paying for someone's time, education, and expertise. But there are other hoops a freelance artist must climb through to bring you that product. And this is my effort to decode a bit of that for you.
Hopefully, all this fastidious detail does nothing but engender trust and understanding between us from the beginning. The last thing I want people to think is that I'm out to get them."
So from one oft-confused consumer to another, I hope this helps."
